It's launch week for 2k8er Daphne Grab, debut YA author of Alive and Well in Prague, New York. This is the story of a teen who has to deal with her ill father and a move. Click here to learn more about Daphne and her novel. It's getting rave reviews!

And, the Class of 2k8 is running another contest with books as prizes. Click here for details.

Child #4 had her first piano lesson today. She was amazing! When the piano teacher asked what her favourite type of music was, she replied, "Smooth jazz." And, as we we're walking down the sidewalk to the car, she clutches her new songbooks to her chest and says, "I'm a very happy girl." Awwww....

FORTY-THREE days until we go to Canada! Things I will eat there: Swiss Chalet chicken, wine gums, butter tarts, ketchup potato chips, dill pickle potato chips, Coffee Crisp chocolate bar, Macintosh toffee, butterscotch ice cream, Laura Secord chocolates, Red River cereal, smarties, E.D. Smith's Lemon Butter, Robertson's Scotch Marmalade, Habitant pea soup. There's more, but I'm getting embarrassed about the length of this list...

I'm actually more excited about seeing friends and family. Seriously, I am. For whatever reason, I just have food on the brain today.

It sounds as though there's more than one "very happy girl" at your house! So 43 days and counting down... ;)

Hi Sarkastic! There used to a "hot dog and mustard" flavor of potato chips. I don't know if they still make it though. It was ultra yummy!!

Hi YPN! I'm sure we'll have a good time, although, this trip, there will be no dropping of babies on their heads in the dirt. Ahem!!! (Not that you did it on purpose. Not that he was damaged. :) ) Love ya!!

First of all LOVED Daphne's book, honestly one of the best I've read all year.

It's so cool that your daughter is taking piano. It is by far my favorite instrument. I teach as well as take lessons, I just really can't get enough of it.

O how I am jealous you get all that yummy Canadian food, especially the smarties!! My family moved to the States 8 years ago and whenever we go back home or have our family come down we always get them to bring us some goodies. I hope you have a blast and eat lots of yummy food!!

I just read your fav. food list out loud to my kids and their response - no way - they got way cooler food in the States. Cold Stone Creamery, Krispi Kreme donuts, Cool Colada gum, ...
So I guess the grass is always greener on the other side.

So happy when the children are happy.

Hmm...perhaps time for another blog contest? With the prize being a goody box of Canadian treats? Just sayin'... :)

Alive and Well looks fantastic. Thanks for the reminder.

As for your trip to Canada, I have to say it amused me greatly that you're looking so forward to the food. I always look forward to different foods when I travel, too.

Becky, that is a very brilliant idea. I should bring back some Canuck treats for blog contest! Which I will run pretty quickly upon my return. Before I eat all said Canuck treats! :)

Smarties! Milk chocolate Smarties!

"Oh, a tube of Smarties means / Lots and lots of chocolate beans..."

(A jingle I remember from my boyhood days in England.)

Ugh. Swiss Chalet certainly loses something when it becomes a default meal for nights when cooking isn't an option. I do have to agree that ketchup chips rock though.
