My fortune cookie message

Oooo! Sounds exciting!

Must go out for Chinese more often if I'm going to get fun fortunes like this one.

A confession: Once, my little sister and I (we were teens, I think) painstakingly removed the fortunes from about a dozen cookies. We used pins to tweezer them out. We typed up new fortunes, folded them and poked them in the cookies. These "new and improved" fortune cookies were for a family get-together at my aunt's. At the last minute, my little sister backed out of going.

Which left me at a dinner party with a bag of fortune cookies bearing rude and inappropriate messages!

I will never forget the perplexed look on my aunt's face as she questioned in a high, sweet voice, "Where did you get these fortune cookies?"

April Fool's is coming. I may be serving Chinese that night...

And, of course, you can borrow this idea!

LOL!!! That's absolutely hilarious!! :) Too bad for your sister for backing out. I'll bet she missed out on some great looks and confused commentary. :)

And I'm with PJ - this is perfect for April Fools!

All I ever get in fortune cookies are sayings such as, “You are a serious, contemplative person.” What kind of fortune is that??? I’m thinking I should change my Chinese take-out place.
Love your trick – have noted it for future family get-togethers when we order in.

LOL. Replacing the fortune cookie fortunes would be so cool. I've always wanted to write them

Oh that would be fun! I once made fortune cookies for a school project, but they ended up soft and floppy, LOL. :-)

I need some thrilling times, for sure!

It sounds so Sherry Holmes Baldwin. :)

Barrie said...

Oh my gosh, Kathy!! It is so Sherry! I never even thought of that!

Bee said...

You will have to give that memory to Sherry now! (Do you remember any of the rude fortunes?)

BTW, if you DO experience something thrilling, I hope you will let us know!

Great idea, Barrie. I'm already plotting...

I would like to know what you said in those fortune cookies!

They don't do them in English Chinese restaurants (at least I've never seen them) but that is one excellent prank!

BTW even your choice in fortune cookies shows your exquisite taste. (Yup 11.10pm and I'm still at it!)

That is totally hilarious, Barrie. Sounds like book material for Sherry!

What did the new & improved fortunes say?

Brilliant idea but I haven't seen fortune cookies in Dubai!!!

My cookies never predict the future anymore; just give me arcane warnings.

What a great idea! I would love to know some of the fortunes you put in those cookies. I bet they were hilarious!

That's a great story. I always wanted to do that but was too chicken.

Okay, I don't want to go into toooooo much detail about the fortune cookie messages. Let's just say my mother was not impressed. I remember one thing we did was mention other people at the table. Not by name, though....something like "The person on your right, etc. " And one of us had recently had high school family life, so you can probably take it from there!

Barrie said...

I *think* there was also one along the lines of "Someone at this dinner will win the lottery, but it won't be you."

Mac and Cheese said...

To cool! I am SO going to do this.

Barbara Martin said...

Barrie, this was funny! What a mischief maker you were. That never goes away; so what mischief have you done as an adult?

Barrie said...

Barbara!! I am always perfectly behaved. Always! Actually, now that I think of it, I haven't played a good trick on anyone for a while. I knew something was missing from my life...

Barrie said...

Bee: I will absolutely let you know if something thrilling happens. Nothing thrilling has happened today (March 26, 2009 @ 10:52 pm, Pacific Time)
