Here's a so-so shot (taken with my Blackberry) when you first enter Serendipity 3. You can see some of the kitschy stuff for sale and the Tiffany lamps which are everywhere. You might recognize this restaurant from the movie Serendipity with Kate Beckinsale and John Cusack. (I am dying to meet the latter in real life. No doubt the feeling is mutual!) One Fine Day and Trust the Man each have scene filmed here, too. People who used to frequent Serendipity 3 include Marilyn Monroe and Andy Warhol.
Serendipity 3 is well known for it's Frrrozen Hot Chocolate. This is a picture of the one Child #4 and I split. I'm not sure where the "frozen" and the "hot" come in. However, it's made of 14 different chocolates and is pretty yummy. I'm not a huge chocolate fan, but Child #4 was extremely wowed. We will not discuss the calories! Anyway, apparently, Jackie O. wanted to serve Frrrozen Hot Chocolate at a function, but couldn't get hold of the recipe. It is available now, and I hunted it down just for you guys. The recipe for Serendipty 3's Frrrozen Hot Chocolate is right here.
Oh, you thought I was kidding when I said the restaurant was over priced? Here is a fancy schmancy hot dog (I can't believe I just typed that phrase) for a whopping $69 dollars! Child #4 and I did NOT order this. (I think if you click on the picture, it will enlarge enough to allow you to read the ingredients.)
Anyway, Serendipity 3 is certainly worth a visit. And a cup of Frrrozen Hot Chocolate. And perhaps a meal. But never a $69 hot dog. ;)
From freedictionary.com, serendipity is:
1. The faculty of making fortunate discoveries by accident.
2. The fact or occurrence of such discoveries.
3. An instance of making such a discovery.

I just love the movie Serendipity (and the word). What a treat to be able to go there, the frozen hot chocolate sounds pretty good, but the dog... um, no thanks.
ReplyDeleteI am a fan of chocolate---especially dark chocolate. This sounds rich. I think my @1 daughter (who is a student in NYC) has talked about Serendipity's desserts.
ReplyDeleteTell Child #4 thank you for the recommendation. The Frozen Hot Chocolate sounds scrumptious. I would not pay $69 for a hot dog, either, not even in New York.
ReplyDeleteI hope they serve champagne with that hot dog.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a fun trip!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fantastic day with your daughter. Forgot to ask earlier, were you a Havergal girl too?
ReplyDeleteI think I'd like to go just to SEE it someday.
ReplyDeleteReb: So good to see you here! The chocolate treat was very good. I just wish somebody at the table next to us had ordered the hot dog so that I could have seen it and photographed it for the blog!
ReplyDeleteDebra: I'm sure there was an item on the menu for you! And I bet your daughter knows about Serendipity3. It's very popular in NYC.
ReplyDeleteCid: I was not. Unfortunately. ;(
ReplyDelete$69 for a hot dog????? Wow! Looks like a fun place though.
ReplyDeleteBeats a $69 dollar salad.
ReplyDeleteHaute dog. Good grief!
ReplyDeleteMac and Cheese: Haute dog?! I love that expression!
ReplyDeleteTravis: I should've known you'd work a sald comment in there somehow!
Susan: It really is a fun place. I bet the hot dog is rarely ordered. I wish I'd thought to ask our server that question!
Green Girl: It's definitely worth the visit. Plus, it's close to Dylan's Candy Bar and FAO Schwarz and Bloomingdales.
Sarkastic: It was the trip of a lifetime. We'll never forget it. ;)
ReplyDeleteCharles: Oh, that's a great idea! I should've asked them if the hot dog came with champagne. And a good year, at that!

My child #2 agrees! I remember going to several birthday parties at Serendipity while growing up in NYC. Now my mom takes her granddaughter.
ReplyDeleteHello Bookclubbers at CDS: I don't have an email for you. So....email me at: barrie.summy@gmail.com. THANK YOU!
ReplyDeleteSarah: I can see how a birthday party at Serendipity 3 would amazing! I think my child #4 would be in absolutely heaven!
ReplyDeleteI love chocolate, so it's a good thing I missed that place when I was in NYC back in May. My Louisiana companions were excellent, though, in finding bargains (and bagels).
ReplyDeleteSounds like an awesome experience to have shared with your daughter. That was my big regret - my daughters would have loved NYC.
