A Couple of Early Reviews....

Incredible, but true! There are a couple of early reviews of I So Don't Do Mysteries. They are from FAMILY MEMBERS who read the Advance Reader Copy. Below are the reviews AND my responses.

From my reluctant reader niece:
Aunt Barrie, your book is fantabulous!

My response: Would you like to go shopping for jewelery?

From Child #3:
Your book is really funny, Mom. Which is kind of weird because in real life you don't have much of a sense of humor.

My response: Well, I haven't truly had a response. I am in a state of shock. In fact, I am in a state of shock to the point that I have been unable to cook for this child or even take him to swim practice.

Okay, peeps. This is totally tongue in cheek. I do feed my children. The last thing I need right now is CPS-Child Protective Services=banging at my door. I have a book deadline. No doubt you've figured this out from the leanness of my posts. I don't have time to chat with well-meaning CPS employees who probably won't get my sense of humor either.

Although....would CPS take me away and lock me up? In a place where I'd have beaucoup time on my hands, meals cooked for me and only a very small area to keep tidy? Oh my! I'd probably get the book done early!

I have always, always been the straight man at my house. Whenever I attempt to pull off 'funny' the children blink at me and say, "You've been married to Dad too long."

Cannot WAIT to read this book and pass it along to others!

Advanced Reader copies...you're silly! :) I have to admit that having your meals cooked for you is pretty tempting...

It have been a whole lot worse if child #3 had said you were funny but you're book wasn't. ;-)

Great reviews, by the way. Nieces love to shop.

Good luck with the deadline. Why is it called a 'dead' line anyway?

Perhaps we should open our own prison. I'm keen to be locked up too!

If it passed muster with your kid it had to be good. I think our offspring just might be are harshest critics.

Very Odd. I left a comment on here yesterday, but it's not here!

Okay, I LOVE Child #3. My kinda kid. Totally honest.

I can't wait to read your book and as soon as you say it's out, I'm buying one!

By the way, are you holding a contest, and sending the winner a FREE copy of your book, signed by YOU of course?????? Hmmm, maybe I should get a free copy just for thinking of this wonderful idea?

Hi Barrie,
Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment!
CONGRATULATIONS on your book... that is such an accomplishment! I taught grade school for 14 years, and always ended the day reading to my kids from a novel. It was the best way to send them home - happy and wanting to hear more. Even if they weren't the "best" readers, they gained a love of literature. I am sure your novel will do the same - get them into a book and loving to read. All the best when it comes out.

Now that it is complete, are you feeling a bit of a loss for things to do? (jaj - just a joke!) :-)

By the way - I am so envious of where in the world you live - sigh!

That is pretty funny. Sounds like kid #3 has his Mom's sense of humor.
I am going to have to get this book for a my cool thirteen year old neighbor girl and then borrow it.

You're off to a good start with the critics! All I can judge it by is it's cover, but so far it's great!

ok, the kids have won me over, I can't wait to read your book!

Maureen McGowan said...

Hey, reviews are reviews, and if you got your son to admit his mother is funny... Well, that says a lot.

Hoping your niece gets some great jewelry... although that precedent could get expensive, because I predict hundreds of great reviews for this book.

PS. I like diamonds.

Alyssa Goodnight said...

Yay for the great reviews! You should tell your son to read your blog--then he'd see your sense of humor can definitely hold its own!

These are great! Child #3 is funny.

All right, you have to right a book for grown ups! You're too funny to save it just for the kiddies!

Here's another early review from an unbiased critique partner. I So Don't Do Mysteries is a roll on the floor laughing your head off kind of book. I loved the early drafts. Sherry is a hoot. Anyone who doesn't buy this book is missing out on the greatest thing since JK Rowlings.
